une autre comparaison entre SOtM et l'Ambre vue sur Audioasylum :
"A few weeks ago, I received the SOtM triad (three boxes) consisting of SOtM's sPS-200ultra (Roon endpoint), tx-USBultra (USB reclocker), and sPS-500 (power supply for both). This week, I received Metrum's Ambre one-box endpoint with internal power supply.
Initial observations of the pros and cons include the SOtM triad's ability to be connected to a master clock (which I do not have for this comparison) and their ability to handle more formats than the Roon-dedicated Ambre. Right now, I am only using Roon and Tidal so the limitations of the Ambre are not a problem for me at this time. Metrum does have plans to add more program options in the future.
The Amber offers a preferable one-box solution compared to SOtM's three-boxes and the Ambre does not need the extra cables as used to connect the three SOtM boxes with each other. Another neat thing with the Ambre is that I can forego the USB connection since I can connect it directly to my Metrum Pavane Level 3 DAC through an I2S connection. The I2S connection required me to install a small board in my Pavane (which Metrum provided) that is a drop-in replacement for their USB input board. After trying it, I uninstalled the I2S board and replaced the USB input so I could use the USB connection with the SOtM tx-USBultra. I will be using an AES/EBU cable to connect the Amber to the DAC for purposes of this comparison. If I choose to keep the Amber, I will replace the I2S board and use it with the I2S connection.
My initial listening impressions showed the SOtM set-up to sound a bit denser, richer, fuller, with great dynamics, and excellent depth. I first played the Ambre through a bnc cable I have here and found it to have excellent clarity but to sound slightly thinner and somewhat less dynamic than the SOtM triad. Through the I2S connection, the Amber was just as dynamic as the SOtM but still not quite as dense-sounding although the tone was richer than what I heard through the bnc cable and the bass was excellent. Of course, some of the issue could have been the bnc input on the DAC or that the Ambre only had about an hour of burn-in. I will continue to burn in the Ambre using the bnc cable and will try the AES/EBU cable when it gets here on Wednesday. Anyone else have comments on the Ambre?"
